TRAVEL + EXPLORE

LETS GET HIGH… A MILE HIGH

Denver, Colorado-

Haha. I would like to honestly sit and go through day by day about the adventures and journeys that were had by myself and 7 of my friends but this entire thing would get extremely long so I do not want to bore with mundane reading. I would rather give you an overall summary of some things to look for, some of our events and maybe a few recommendations if you plan to visit. Fair??

Denver’s atmosphere from my experience and perspective is very laid back (Austin, TX vibe) without the “weird” reputation. Seemed like every establishment we went to evokes a Marky Mark Good Vibrations sort of mood, playing some combination of 80s or mid 90s music hahaha

So I will start by saying I did not really have any specific expectations of the place before going, except that I was not trying to freeze so we did plan to go during the Summer months just because the weather would be cooperative, people would be out and events would be plentiful so that there was always something to do. I would definitely recommend staying in the Denver Union Station vicinity as we did, it is located centrally in Downtown Denver and a very nice place with variations of live music, coffee/pastry shops, restaurants, and sitting areas for good conversation or if you’re in need of that quick phone charge they have usb ports everywhere. Also conveniently one of my boys found Lugden a mobile luggage check-in van that is legit and safe for $10 all-day from 8am-6pm (sometimes later) and it is always near the station which really is useful if your lodging is not ready for check in or if you want to immediately start exploring and don’t want to have to carry everything with you..

The food from day one and throughout the entire trip was EXCELLENT!!!. The Delectable Egg, Tupelo Honey, Inside Scoop Creamery, just to name a few with bonus meal at the very end.

We also made time to see the Colorado Rockies play against the Toronto Blue Jays at the famous Coors Field followed by an exploration of Downtown Denver Nightlife where one venue we visited security came to escort me out of a place LOL!!!!! which was my own fault (Gotta subscribe for that story hahaha).

The venue that was the most fun, definitely ViewHouse , a two-story rooftop bar with the vibrant crowd, great selection of drink options and music to catch a vibe, that is the place to be. It’s about a 5-7-min walk or a 2-min minute scooter ride (Lime scooters everywhere) from the field and probably the most popular place to be on the night life scene downtown. There is also a 50-yard green lawn inside for a variation of games and contests the DJ feels like doing if you’re into that haha and the later it gets the more fun the place gets.

In addition to the delicious food and enjoyable local greens (haha) we made sure not to leave Denver without a hike. So we found an area called Lakewood, CO, to enjoy nature from a little higher elevation about 15-20-min outside of downtown. At the start of the hike we caught a 7-min light rain shower, stared death in the eye from a 4-ft snake (not sure what kind it was I didn’t stick around to ask it any questions) also got stabbed in the ankle by some native cactus. So it felt like Man vs Wild out there lol but it was all worth it for the crisp cool air and breath taking 360 views from the top of a mountain, and a front row seat to watching a small afternoon thunderstorm develop over a mountain top that could never get old.

On the way back to the city we took the time to go check out the Denver Art Museum which is apparently free on Saturdays (so even better) and turned out to be a great way to spend some time while the rain passed. One of my personal favorites about the exhibits was the Hall of Mirrors which sounds like some horror movie scene waiting to happen but it was honestly pretty dope and not too long of a walk through. On our last day we decided to go to the Downtown Denver Aquarium which I was personally excited about simply because I like zoos and aquariums (#Dweeblife) so we took time to look at all of the different types of ocean life annnnnnd I met a ninja turtle!!! Well not exactly but I did pet a turtle that was trying to make a meal out of my air max shoe laces(Nah fam).

Our farewell meal saved for last was of course, you guessed it, The Denver Biscuit Company where I chose to indulge in “The Lola”, a perfectly crisped half-breast of buttermilk fried chicken, smoked bacon, in-house made fresh honey butter and slathered warm local maple syrup. Tell me that doesn’t sound good?!?! I will tell you that you cannot leave Denver without at least trying this place it is well worth the investment…(you will see below)

In conclusion Denver I want to thank you for 5 days of great weather, great food, great laughs and great greenery (haha). If you are looking to go somewhere to go this summer with a lot of different dynamics in the atmosphere I would definitely recommend it here. My next time will be really soon!!!! The way I would describe Denver, CO in short is like baby bear’s porridge from the children's story it is not too hot, not too cold but it is juuuuuuust right.

If youv’e been to Denver would be happy to hear about your experience in the comments below. If you plan to go holla at me I'll be happy to give you some deeper detail and recommendations.
